Digital Delivery Lead

Digital Delivery Lead | Manchester (3 days on site) | Competitive salary + bonus

A renowned consumer business is seeking a Digital Delivery Lead to take ownership of delivery across its in-house software engineering function.

About the Role

This position sits on the engineering delivery side of digital, not product or marketing. You and your team of in-house software engineers will own all aspects of quality and delivery — development, testing, deployment and production support — for the platforms underpinning the digital customer experience.

The role is as much about people and process as it is about technology. You'll iteratively deliver software using agile methodology, ensuring just enough process without surprises, while coaching a high-performing, multi-disciplinary, self-organising team. A key part of the job is translating business requirements into realistic delivery plans — matching what the roadmap demands against what the team can actually capacity for — and being confident enough to push back on business requests when it's the right call for the product. You'll also carry real accountability for technical debt: knowing when to repay it through refactoring versus when to prioritise business-facing work, and being able to defend that trade-off to stakeholders.

Beyond the team itself, you'll manage third-party SaaS supplier relationships, including budget ownership, and work closely with recruitment to attract, hire and retain strong engineers.

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience leading, coaching and mentoring in-house technology teams who deliver high-quality software — not just managing a backlog, but developing the people.
  • A genuine track record of iteratively delivering value through agile methodologies, with the judgement to keep process "just enough" rather than heavy-handed.
  • Experience building roadmaps and release plans, and providing credible estimates to a broad range of stakeholders.
  • The ability to manage dependencies effectively when your team's work intersects with other teams.
  • Comfort holding the line between new feature delivery and the ongoing need to maintain, support and de-risk existing systems.
  • Confidence challenging business requests where needed, backed by a clear sense of the trade-offs involved.
  • Experience managing third-party/SaaS vendor relationships, including budget accountability.

About You

You lead with openness and warmth, and build trust with your team quickly. You're genuinely passionate about the customer experience the engineering work supports, and you believe the small things — how you coach, how you communicate, how you handle a tough trade-off — are what make a team want to stay and do their best work.
