Programme Test Engineer – Playwright Automation

Location: London, hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 remote)
Contract: Outside IR35
Day rate: £200-240 per day
Start Date: Immediately

 

Overview

Are you an automation tester looking for your next step, somewhere you'll own real test coverage on core programmes rather than maintain someone else's scripts?

We're working with a major international food and retail brand that's building out a small Programme Test team. Working alongside the Programme Test Lead, you'll help put an automation-first test strategy into practice and raise coverage across all the major programmes. It's a hands-on role with a good mix of Playwright automation, manual testing and close work with the business.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain automated test scripts in Playwright.
  • Carry out manual testing where needed, bringing an analytical eye to edge cases and potential issues.
  • Work with Programme Managers, Product Owners, Business Analysts and end users to shape test scenarios (functional, non-functional, SIT) and UAT scripts.
  • Document test outputs clearly and help maintain a central testing knowledge base.
  • Collaborate with the wider Programme Test team and programme delivery teams to produce quality testing output.

 

Requirements

  • Proven experience as an Automation Tester, writing unit and functional tests.
  • Hands-on experience with Playwright.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions is a plus).
  • Understanding of Waterfall, Agile and hybrid delivery, and the SDLC as a whole.
  • Strong attention to detail and good written and verbal communication.
  • A proven ability to work well as part of a team.

 

Desirable

  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence and GitHub.
  • Previous experience in retail, or testing external SaaS products.
  • A degree or background in Computer Science or a similar STEM subject.
  • ISTQB or a similar qualification.
