CNC Programmer
Skelmersdale | £40,000 + Bonus + Benefits
A leading engineering and manufacturing business operating within Oil, Gas & Marine is looking to recruit an experienced CNC Programmer to join their team in Skelmersdale.
This is a highly hands-on role focused on programming, setting and operating CNC milling machinery, producing precision components for subsea applications. The successful CNC Programmer will play a key role within a busy machine shop environment where priorities can change quickly, requiring someone who enjoys problem-solving, adapting to changing schedules and taking ownership of work from programming through to final inspection.
Working closely with Production, Engineering and Quality teams, you will be responsible for developing machining programs, supporting production requirements and driving efficient manufacturing processes across the department.
Responsibilities
- Program CNC milling machines using Autodesk PowerMill and Fanuc controls
- Set and operate CNC machinery to manufacture precision components to engineering drawings
- Program, set and operate 5-axis machining centres
- Select tooling, fixtures and machining strategies to maximise efficiency and quality
- Design and manufacture work-holding solutions and fixtures where required
- Carry out first-off, in-process and final inspections using standard measuring equipment
- Support Production with changing priorities and urgent manufacturing requirements
- Liaise with Design Engineers and Production teams regarding machining methods and process improvements
- Troubleshoot machining issues and optimise programs to improve cycle times and productivity
- Support continuous improvement initiatives throughout the machine shop
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with quality standards
Requirements
- Previous experience as a CNC Programmer, CNC Miller Programmer or Programmer Setter Operator
- Strong CNC milling background
- Experience with Autodesk PowerMill
- Experience programming, setting and operating CNC machines
- Knowledge of Fanuc controls
- Experience working with 3-axis, 4-axis or 5-axis machining centres
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings
- Strong understanding of tooling, fixtures and machining processes
- Experience within precision engineering, aerospace, defence, oil & gas, tooling or similar manufacturing environments
- Able to work effectively in a fast-paced shop floor environment where production priorities can change
