Head of Operations (Delivery)

Head of Operations (Delivery) | Chelmsford, hybrid | £70,000 plus bonus

A fast-growing software and information management business is looking for its first ever Head of Operations. It’s a brand-new role, and you’d be taking the reins of the biggest team in the company.

The business
They help owners and operators of some of the UK’s most complex built environment portfolios get a proper grip on their asset information. Think handover data, O&M manuals, health and safety files and a platform that brings it all together. Interesting work, real impact, and a business that’s growing.

The role
You’ll own the day-to-day running of the Delivery team, which looks after around 200 projects. You’ll have 6 direct reports, with around 40 people across the wider team.

What you’ll be doing

  • running the delivery rhythm: portfolio reviews, chasing progress with project leads and making sure everything lands on time, to quality and at the right margin
  • stepping in on at-risk projects and speaking to clients directly when it matters
  • planning resource and capacity, juggling priorities and getting the right people on the right jobs
  • being the senior voice for key clients, pushing back firmly when scope creeps
  • owning budgets, forecasting and project margin alongside Finance
  • building the processes, KPIs and reporting that let the team scale
  • leading, coaching and developing the team, including career paths and training
  • helping the team get the most out of automation and AI, and championing it with your people
  • working with Product and Development on the roadmap, including new product launches

What you’ll bring

  • a construction or built environment background
  • experience leading a multi-disciplinary delivery or operations team, including managing managers
  • a track record of running lots of projects at once to time, quality and budget
  • real commercial awareness, with budgets, forecasting and margin under your belt
  • working knowledge of ISO 19650 and BIM, though you won’t be doing the delivery yourself
  • confidence with senior clients, and the backbone to hold your ground
  • a strong people leader who holds the team to account
  • comfortable with systems and reporting tools

Nice to have

  • experience in a SaaS or technology-enabled services business, working alongside Product and Development
  • scaling a team through a period of growth
  • a project management qualification (APM, PRINCE2 or PMP)
  • knowledge of COBie, the Golden Thread or Building Safety Act requirements

The details

  • Location: Chelmsford office 2 to 3 days a week, hybrid otherwise. You’ll need to live within commuting distance
  • Hours: full time, 37.5 hours, Monday to Friday
  • Clearance: this role is subject to Security Clearance (SC), so you’ll need the right to work in the UK and to have lived here for at least 3 years
